My interest in the field of Psychology was created by Yale University Professor Paul Bloom when I did an Introduction to Psychology (through Coursera) in 2018 after finishing grade 9.
I studied Grade XI and Grade XII at Mount Carmel PU College, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
It was established in 1948 to meet the escalating demand for the education of women in India.
I scored perfect 100/100 in History, Economics, Psychology and Sociology.
I scored 98/100 in French due to my solid foundation provided by Alliance Française de Bangalore.
My willingness to learn deeper ideas about Psychology and Sociology was fueled by some outstanding faculty at this PU College.
I did my BA (Hons) Psychology Majors with Political Science Minors from Lady Shriram College for Women. Ranked No.1 in the field of Psychology in India, I was fortunate to learn various Psychology subjects from some of the best subject matter experts in the country.
I scored A+ and above in 16 out of the 26 Psychology subjects. Notable amongst them are Psychology of Disability, Developmental Psychology, Psychological Research, Statistical Methods for Psychological Research and Environmental Sciences.
The subjects I studied during my Bachelors gave me the strong academic foundation in understanding human psyche qualitatively. These subjects propelled me to help fellow human beings, especially the deprived ones like visually impaired students. I volunteered in NSS Project Sandrishti Swavalamban for a year and then became a team head in the following year. During the 2 years I made significant contribution by scribing, facilitating study notes and organising scribes etc.
I chose Political Science Minors intentionally to improve my perspectives of the world. The four subjects I chose were Understanding Ambedkar, Environment Science, United Nations & Global Conflict and Women, Power & Politics.
Understanding Dr BR Ambedkar course is broadly intended to introduce Ambedkar’s ideas and their relevance in contemporary India, by looking beyond caste. Ambedkar’s philosophical contributions towards Indian economy and class question, sociological interpretations on religion, gender, caste and cultural issues; ideas on politics such as concepts of nation, state, democracy, law and constitutionalism are to be pedagogically interrogated and interpreted. This course helped me to critically engage with the existing social concerns, state and economic structures and other institutional mechanisms. It also facilitated me to strengthen my creative thinking. This course helped me to critically think on inclusivity issues.
Environmental science course helped me become a ecology conscious citizen through development of a strong foundation on the critical linkages between ecology-society-economy.
United Nations and Global Conflict This course provided a comprehensive introduction to the most important multilateral political organization in international relations. This course helped me to critically understand the UN’s performance till 2022 and the reforms required to stay relevant.
Women, power and politics course focused on women as radical social agents. This course attempts to question the complicity of social structures and relations in gender inequality. Special attention was paid to feminism as an approach and outlook. This course made me understand that disadvantaged women without requisite education cannot establish themselves in the society
